Gonesh Sandalwood Incense Review
One of the advantages of selling incense is the free samples from manufacturers and distributors that arrive now and then in my mailbox. Friday I received a sample of Gonesh Sandalwood from Genieco's "Extra Rich" collection. I love the scent of Sandalwood but I had never tried the Gonesh version so I thought it would be a good idea to record my first impressions here. I have to admit that the moment I opened the inner package the first thought that came to mind was "delicious". It is unmistakably Sandalwood, and yet somehow more sensual and a bit less spicy before ignition than other offerings. I was annoyed just a bit at the fact that the sticks come in two bundles of ten secured by paper tape on...
Why Incense Sticks and Agarbatti Manufacturing...
Agarbatti or Incense Sticks have been used throughout the world for a very long time. Their main usage has been in different cultures and religions. It is believed that the smoke which arises on burning of agarbatti, carries one's prayers to the God. Other purposes for agarbatti burning are air purification, masking of smells that are unpleasant, providing inner harmony, and many others. With the passage of time, agarbatti manufacturing has seen quite some changes, but the basic ingredients are the same. A number of biotic material that are used in its manufacture include seeds, barks, roots, leaves, charcoal, flowers & others. Also, few essential oils, gums, resins and aromatic chemicals have...

Incense sticks is composed of aromatic bootic materials, which release fragrant smoke when burned. The term incense refers to the substance itself, rather than to the odor that it produces. The oldest source on incense is the Vedas, specifically, the Athar-Vaveda and the Rig-Veda . Incense-burning was used both to create pleasing aromas and a medicinal tool. It's use in medicine is considered the first phase of Ayurveda, which uses incense as an approach to healing. Incense-making was thus almost exclusively done by monks. The specific knowledge of incense as a healing tool was assimilated into the religious practices of the time - early Hinduism. As Hinduism matured and Buddhism was founded in...
There are few incense ingredients as confusing as Dragons Blood. The name Dragons Blood can refer to no less than sixteen different resins from the same number of trees. It can also refer to the extremely poisonous mineral cinnibar (mercury sulfide) although not in recent times to my knowledge. It is also another name for red rock opium, but it contains no opiates and its intoxicating properties are dubious at best. Most commonly though dragons blood incense is made from eitherthe Dracaena draco or Daemonorops draco trees. The former being referred to as "true" dragons blood. The scent is variously described as sultry, deep, penetrating and often, sweet. Given those properties of scent it is no...

The Hem incense company puts forth a very good effort with their Hem Champa. Unfortunately it doesn't have what it takes to be a serious contender to the current kings of the hill. Don't get me wrong, I am not dismissing this version of nag champa with the wave of an elitist hand. It is just that what is an acceptable formulation of nag champa has such narrow margins and any scent that strays too far out of them falls by the wayside. This is by popular vote and not my personal opinion. Overall it is an excellent representation of nag champa. Earthy, warm, sweet, sensual even. What the problem seems to be is that it also has a slightly bitter or pungent note that comes through every now and then. The...
